Hennessy Hall to Be Dedicated

The University community will gather on May 7 to acknowledge the generosity and 16 years of service of Edward L. Hennessy, Jr., BS’55 (Ruth), and celebrate the dedication of the Mansion at the College at Florham as Hennessy Hall. The celebration will take place at 4 p.m. in Lenfell Hall.

Hennessy, an alumnus, University trustee emeritus, trustee from 1978 to 1994, trustees board chairman from 1983 to 1994, charter member of The PINNACLE Society and the first Charter Day honoree, has been a generous benefactor to the University for 40 years.

He is retired chairman and CEO of AlliedSignal Inc., former director of the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Reserve Bank of New York and a trustee and founding president of the Tri-County Scholarship Fund of the Diocese of Paterson, N.J., and has served on the boards of countless charitable entities. In addition to education, his personal philanthropic interests include the arts, health care and the economically disadvantaged.

An advocate of higher education, he has also served on the boards of Catholic University of America, Stevens Institute of Technology and Blessed John XXIII National Seminary and holds honorary degrees from St. Peter’s College, University of South Carolina, Stevens Institute of Technology, Rider College (now University), Fairleigh Dickinson University and Northeastern University.

His vision, compassion and leadership have been recognized globally. He is the recipient of numerous decorations including the Legion of Honor, France; Milal-l-Quad-l-Azam, Pakistan; and Knight of Gregory, Knight of Malta and Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher from the Vatican.

He has been married to Ruth Schilling Hennessy for 56 years, and they have two children and two grandchildren. (Proof Positive)
